Twenty-Nine
Logan
Itâs only eleven thirty when I hear Archerâs truck pull into the driveway. Mollyâs laugh booms long before I open the front door.
Archer has the window down when I step outside, sending silent pleas from the driver seat. âThey havenât shut up the entire drive home.â
I chuckle, not feeling the slightest bit sorry for him.
Molly, Kim, and Beth are so busy yapping, they donât even notice me standing here.
âHow was your night on babysitting duty?â he asks.
I roll my eyes. âIâm a pro, brother.â
Stumbling out of the back seat, Beth and Kim wrap their arms around each other.
âBest night ever,â they agree.
Dragging her feet as she climbs the steps, Kim grabs my arms, her eyes swirling. âGoodnight, Logan. Iâm going to bed. I trust youâll take care of my sister.â
âOf course.â
âYou two make me nauseous but I love it.â
She pulls off her heels and drops them at the bottom of the stairs with a thud.
Beth follows, but her footsteps are accompanied with an uncontrollable giggle. âI fucking hate high heels,â she tries to whisper but sheâs far too loud.
âBeth!â Molly shouts from the car. When I look back, I see her leaning over Archer in the driverâs seat. He shakes his head as he slaps her on the ass. âStop it, Archer. Iâm having a moment with Beth,â she scolds.
Beth spins around, leaning against the door frame.
âYouâre the best,â Molly whisper-yells, or at least she tries. She loses all sense of hearing when sheâs drunk.
Beth points at what I think is supposed to be Molly, but only certain limbs are working, and she falls back against my chest. âNo, youâre the best.â Tilting her head back, her eyes are glassy when she explains, âTequila.â
âThat will do it.â I grab her shoulders to steady her.
Archer tries to get Molly back in her seat, securing her with the seat belt. He turns back as Molly blows kisses. âThereâs my favorite brother-in-law,â she slurs.
âI bet you say that to all of us.â
âOnly to you and Jaxson.â
âTrouble.â
âAnd Beth.â Molly hiccups. âYou should take my brother up on his offer. Heâs really into you.â
My blood freezes in my veins, my muscles tensing up. Jealousy, possessive and raw, grips me tight.
Beth's cheeks color instantly, her eyes wide with shock. She refuses to meet my gaze, her fingers nervously twisting the hem of her shirt.
Archer shoots me an apologetic smile before driving away.
The engine revs in the distance when I turn to Beth, tying to keep my expression unreadable. âWhat offer?â
She looks at me, her eyes clear despite the alcohol running through her veins. Her cheeks flush a deeper shade of pink. âAce may or may not have asked me out.â
My jaw clenches. âAnd what did you say?â
âI didn't say anything. I froze,â she answers, the words spilling out in a nervous rush. âI'm not good in those situations.â
âDo you want to go out with him?â I ask, my tone deceptively casual.
She eyes me for a moment, even drunk catching onto my jealousy. It does nothing but make her blush more.
